ORILLIA, [February 2, 2016] – This past Wednesday, January 27, Mariposa Gymnastics Club held a mock meet for the 41 gymnasts on the club’s competitive gymnastics team. The meet was held as a warm up for the upcoming competitive season and featured all gymnasts performing on the four apparatus: floor, beam, bars and vault in the same rotation as at a competitive meet. Family and friends were invited to watch and cheer the gymnasts on and to prepare them for performing in a meet environment.

Athletes at Mariposa range in age from 5 to 15 years old and compete at levels 1 to 6 of the Junior Olympic program. They train for 12 hours per week at the club’s facility on Harvie Settlement Road.

This year, Mariposa will attend competitions at gymnastics clubs in Bracebridge, Pickering, Brampton, Peterborough, Oshawa, Halton Hills, Angus, Newmarket and Cambridge. The club finishes the season by hosting its own Sunshine meet from June 3 to 5. The meet is the club’s largest fundraiser of the year.

Karen Koprla, Program Manager, Mariposa Gymnastics Club said: “Our athletes and coaches train hard throughout the year to prepare for the tough competition they face at these meets. We have traditionally done very well with strong finishes, and I think this is going to be an exceptional year for us. I wish all the gymnasts good luck with their competitions in the next few months.”

Note to Editors: Mariposa Gymnastics Club is Orillia’s only gymnastics club, providing fun fitness and fundamental gymnastics for children eight months to 18 years of age. The club specializes in women’s artistic gymnastics on recreational and competitive levels, trampoline, boys groups, tumbling and birthday parties.
