The Barrie Kennel and Obedience Club will be hosting their 64th annual dog show this year at ODAS Park on Fairgrounds Road in Orillia.
Dogs from all over Canada and the United States will converge on Orillia for one of the largest outdoor conformation dog shows in Ontario.
Barrie Kennel Club president, Kim Leblanc, says more than 300 dogs are expected to come to Orillia to compete for top honors in the conformation ring and agility, rally and obedience trials.
"This year, we have a jam-packed weekend planned for everyone," said show chair Judy McArthur. "The club is holding four sets of agility trials, two on Saturday and two on Sunday."
"Agility trials are as much fun for the dog and handler as they are for the spectators. Watching the dogs weave between poles, cross over teeter-totters and run through the chutes at top speed is thrilling and exciting. It's amazing to watch the team work between the dogs and their handlers and the dogs really do perform better with applause from the crowds," added McArthur.
The show, which is only for purebred dogs, is a great day outing for a family who might be looking to purchase a puppy. Not only will they will be able to see many different breeds of dogs, but will be able to talk to the breeders and owners of these dogs about the requirements and upkeep of the different breeds.
Booths full of doggy items like shampoos, brushes and combs, leashes and collars, food, bowls, artwork and beds will be plentiful. A light lunch will also be available on site.
The show runs from Saturday, July 31 to Monday, Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to approximately 5 p.m. dialy. Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for seniors and children under 12. The family rate is $8 and parking is free.
