The guitar autographed by legendary singer/songwriter Gordon Lightfoot auctioned on eBay has sold for US$7,400 (CDN$7,855).
"We haven't yet discussed with them if they want their identity to be made public," said hospital spokesman Terry Dyni. "We know it's a local person because they said they can come pick it up, but we don't know exactly where they are from."
Lightfoot autographed and tuned the brand new Martin D-18 guitar after his sold-out benefit concert at the Orillia Opera House on Saturday, Nov. 14.
It is the same model guitar Gordon Lightfoot has been performing with for decades and wrote countless chart-topping hits likeSundown, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, Rainy Day People, If You Could Read My Mind, Early Morning Rain, and many more.
The funds will support the Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital Foundation and be put toward the hospital's equipment fund, Dyni said.
"We are really happy," he said. "The guitar itself was worth $2,500, so we were hoping to at least double that. All around it was a good fundraiser... and a good awareness-raiser for the foundation."
The eBay auction ended at 7 p. m. on Thursday after running for 10 days, with 56 bids being placed.
