WALK-A-THON HELPS AILING BABY'S FAMILY

Members of the public are being asked to lace up their walking shoes Sunday to support little Grayson Gillespie.

Born with a rare condition called hypoplastic left heart syndrome, Grayson has already undergone two heart surgeries and will undergo at least one more in the coming years.

A fundraising walkathon is being held Sunday at 3 p. m. leaving from St. David's Church on James Street. The fundraiser will serve the dual purpose of raising funds to help with travel, accommodation and medical expenses for Grayson and parents Ed Gillespie and Natalie Crawford, as well as a community cleanup initiative.

A free cold buffet dinner will be served following the walk and donations of non-perishable food items will be collected for the food bank.

For pledge forms or more information, call Kerry Nielsen at 33- 5760.

ALTERNATIVE TERMINAL LOCATION SOUGHT

The City of Orillia transit advisory committee wants staff to begin exploring possible long-term solutions to the bus terminal problem.

After recommending that the city's main terminal remain at Mississaga and West streets, but with a new configuration, committee members also recommended the city start looking at alternatives.

Committee member Cathy Campbell suggested that considering a permanent terminal not located on the street could be a longer-term solution to the opposition to the West and Mississaga street terminal and the Peter and Mississaga street location.

"I don't think either location is satisfying people," she said Tuesday.

The other committee members agreed and looking for an alternate terminal location was included in their recommendation that will go to council.

FLU ASSESSMENT CENTRE CLOSING MONDAY

BARRIE -- The Simcoe County Flu Assessment Centre in Barrie will close on Monday due to a steady decline of patients.

The clinic, which opened Nov. 16 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church on Steel Street, will continue to operate through the weekend.

The centre opened to quickly assess individuals with influenza-like symptoms, while reducing the burden of non-urgent cases on overwhelmed hospital emergency departments and walk-in clinics. Although the centre was initially very busy, during the past several days, there's been a significant decrease in the number of patients.

"The flu assessment centre provided care for nearly 300 people over the past two weeks," said Dr. Monica Wolnik, medical director of the assessment centre, in a release. "The model that we used to screen, assess and treat patients was extremely effective. It also allowed us to come together, quickly, as a community to determine how to best utilize our health-care resources in response to a pressing health issue"
