A heating source being used in a garage could have been the cause of a Wednesday evening fire at the Country Cove Diner and Variety in Ramara Township.
Yesterday, Ramara Township Fire Department administrator Tony Stong said the cause is still being investigated but it appears the fire may have started from the heat source that was being used in the building. He estimates damage to be around $80,000 due to damage to a boat stored in the garage and boats and other vehicles stored nearby.
Damage to the building that houses the variety store and diner was kept to a minimum, Stong said.
A man and a woman were sent to hospital after they were injured trying to remove items from the garage after they noticed the fire.
Stong said the man suffered second degree burns to his hands, while the woman had a number of lacerations.
The fire department will continue the investigation to determine the cause, Stong said.
"At this time, we don't consider it suspicious," he said.
However, with the theory the fire may have resulted from a heat source, Stong cautioned that proper sources of heating should always be used when indoors.
Firefighters were called to the report of a garage fire at the corner of McRae Park Road and Muley Point Road shortly after 5:30 p. m. and were on scene until around 10 p. m. All three Ramara stations responded and 37 firefighters worked to get the fire under control.
