LAX FOR CURE RAISED $10,640 FOR CANCER
The second annual Lax for the Cure charity lacrosse tournament held at Park Street Collegiate Institute on Saturday raised $10,640 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation through registration fees, donations and draws. Last year, the event raised $5,129.

For the 2009-10 school year, the first day of classes for students in the Simcoe County District School Board is Tuesday, Sept. 8. School year calendars are available at www.scdsb.on.caunder the schools section.

YOUTH CHARGED WITH ASSAULT OF ANGLER
A 12-year-old youth has been charged after an angler was assaulted last Friday in the City of Kawartha Lakes.
On Friday Aug. 21 at approximately 2:30 p. m., the City of Kawartha Lakes Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated an assault which occurred on Canal Lake near Bolsover.
The investigation revealed that a 46-year-old Asian Canadian male from Toronto was fishing from a bridge located on Canal Lake when a male youth walked up behind the victim and pushed him off the bridge. The victim fell approximately five feet into the water below. He did not suffer any injuries.
As a result of the investigation, the youth has been charged with one count of assault. He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Sept. 22 in Lindsay.
SCHOOL BOARDS GETTING BACK TO BUSINESS
After summer break, school boards are bringing their business back to the public forum.
The Simcoe County District School Board will resume its monthly board meetings tomorrow. The meeting will take place at the Education Centre in Midhurst, with the public session beginning at 7 p. m.
