Nestor, Zimonjic go for title No. 7

At 36, Daniel Nestor should be well past his prime on the ATP World Tour.

Funny thing, though -- Nestor, raised in Toronto after he was born in Belgrade, keeps winning on the doubles circuit.

Nestor and partner Nenad Zimonjic will go for their seventh title in 2009 when they take to the court at the Rogers Cup in Montreal, a tournament that begins on Aug. 8.

Nestor three times has won six doubles titles in one season, but never seven.

"I had a great year in 1999, but I had to make a choice (after shoulder surgery)," said Nestor, who earlier this month won at Wimbledon for the second year in a row. "My body could not do both, and I chose to stick with doubles.

"It has paid off. I'm a late bloomer, but I've had a great five or six years. (Going out on top) is not going to work for me because I am not very good at anything else.

"I'll stick with something I am good at."

Nestor was giving back yesterday, appearing at the Rosethorn Tennis Club in Etobicoke to play in the Miele League Challenge, a Greater Toronto Area and Montreal-based league that has more than 10,000 players and will go national in 2010.

Ranked No. 4 in the world in doubles, Nestor has won $742,382 US this year to push his career earnings close to $8-million.

Nes tor, who spends the winter months in the Bahamas when he is not on tour, can't foresee the day he hangs up his racquet.

"Three or four years ago I would have said I would not be playing now," Nestor said.

"I can't really say (when he will retire).

"As long as I am competitive and winning big tournaments, I'm going to keep playing."
