Candlelight Parade runs Friday evening
The treetops will be glistening in Orillia Friday.
The annual Children's Candlelight Parade takes place Friday evening. More than 80,000 twinkling lights and 34 warm light spheres will line the downtown streets and light the night for all to see.
The parade begins in the parking lot of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 34 at 6:30 p.m. There, all kids under the age of 12 will be given a battery operated candle to hold as they walk up Mississaga Street, led by the town crier.
After singing Christmas carols through the downtown core to the Orillia Opera House, the switch will be thrown to light up the city's Christmas tree, feature more than 16,000 lights. The tree lighting is scheduled for approximately 7 p.m.
About 6,000 feet of lights will be used this year downtown, as well as 50 hanging baskets incorporated into the streetscape.
The Santa Claus Parade makes its way through downtown Sunday afternoon.
