LETTER: Don't jump the gun

Re: "Despite opponents' fears, U.S. will survive Trump," Nov. 29

John Gormley tells us not to worry about Donald Trump becoming U.S. president because the disasters we fear don't usually happen. Look at Brexit, he says. The chattering classes predicted absolute catastrophe if Britain withdrew from the EU but the disaster has failed to materialize and things have returned to normal.

Well, perhaps that's because, let me think, oh yes, Britain hasn't left yet.

Only when it does will we see the true results of Brexit, and I fear they will be profoundly negative for Britain both economically and socially.
