An Orillia man was charged with theft after a watch and wallet were removed from a north-Barrie department store Tuesday evening.

Just after 6 p.m., city police say Sears' security saw a watch being removed from its packaging and placed on a man's wrist.

He continued browsing through the store. Price tags were removed from a Nintendo and Batman wallet, police said, and placed in a man's pocket.

No attempt was made to pay for these items, police said, and store security arrested a man outside the store.

A 23-year-old man was charged with theft under $5,000 and given a December court date.
