Hwy. 11 construction postponed
Drivers frustrated over roadwork along Highway 11 will get a respite until next year.
Astrid Poei, a spokeswoman with the province's ministry of transportation, said all four lanes should be open on the highway between lines 6 and 7 by the weekend.
"We're shutting down construction," Poei said Monday, noting that with fluctuating temperatures, concerns over warranties relating to the work being completed can become an issue.
"It's because of varying weather. All lanes will be open by the end of the week."
Since the work began just after Thanksgiving, traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction for the second year of culvert replacement at Shellswell Creek.
Poei said the estimated three weeks of work left on the project will now be completed next spring.
The work is part of a $6.2-million contract to complete two projects on the highway announced last year. The tender also included the resurfacing of the highway from South Sparrow Lake Road to the Washago area that has since been completed.
