In addition to attracting, growing, and supporting the economy, the Simcoe County Economic Development Office, and its partners, are also acquiring new hardware.

The Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC) recently recognized the Simcoe Muskoka Skilled Trades Expo with a 2016 Marketing Canada Award.

"We're open for business, supportive of growth and working with our business partners to address labour challenges, particularly in the skilled trades and manufacturing sectors," said Warden Gerry Marshall. "We have great momentum coming off the heels of a tremendously successful economic development familiarization tour and manufacturers forum and we thank EDAC for recognizing the efforts of so many local partners who made our first Skilled Trades Expo possible."

The Skilled Trades Expo, which was held in June 2016 at the Elmvale Community Centre, helped showcase skilled trades in Simcoe County and introduced approximately 1,600 Grade 7 and 8 students to more than 30 skilled trades.

The goal of the Simcoe Muskoka Skilled Trades Expo, a partnership between the County of Simcoe, Simcoe County District School Board, Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, Simcoe Muskoka Workforce Development Board, City of Orillia, City of Barrie, Springwater Township, and the Flos Agricultural Society, was to provide students with the opportunity to participate in hands-on demonstrations and interactive displays relating to dozens of skilled trades available in Simcoe County.

Based on feedback from exhibitors, partners, and students who took part in the Expo, the County of Simcoe and our area partners are pleased to announce that we are hosting the next Skilled Trades Expo on May 24, 2017.
