The Orillia Wind Ensemble (OWE) has announced its 2013-14 season, with three great concerts for audiences in Orillia and area.
The series will begin with Christmas Prelude 2013, this year at the Orillia Opera House, and featuring a special guest, the Orillia Vocal Ensemble.
The concert is always a family favourite and marks the traditional start of the holiday concert season in the city.
Featuring traditional and lesser-known holiday music, carol sing-alongs, and a visit from everyone’s favourite jolly, old Christmas elf, Christmas Prelude is a great way for the family to get into the holiday spirit.
Christmas Prelude will take place Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
The OWE's second concert in its series is the winter concert featuring special small groups and soloists from within the ensemble.
As the OWE has grown in musicality and musicianship, director Roy Menagh came up with the idea of this special concert to highlight some of the accomplished musicians in each section.
The concert will be presented Feb. 22, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church.
The third and final concert in the series will be a special event. Accomplished local pianist Jacqueline Dancyger-Arnold will perform Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto, in its entirety, accompanied by the OWE.
This will be a premier musical event in Orillia and one not to be missed by anyone who enjoys classical music performed at a high level.
This concert will also be presented at the Orillia Opera House May 24, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.
The OWE is pleased to have the support of many local businesses and sponsors, as well as the fund-matching artsVest program, to present this series.
Tickets for all concerts individually and for the series are available at the Orillia Opera House box office, at orilliaoperahouse.ca or by calling 705-326-8011.
