Train collision victim identified



Police have identified the man who was killed by a train early Tuesday morning in Severn Township as Paul Cooper, 62, of Fenelon Township.

At about 2 a.m., Orillia OPP responded to the scene of a collision between a Canadian Pacific (CP) train and a vehicle in the area of Upper Big Chute Road and White Pines Road, just south of Severn Falls.

The incident was reported by CP.

“The vehicle was on the tracks when it was struck by the northbound train,” states an OPP media release.

The driver, who was the lone occupant in the vehicle, died as a result of the collision.

A post-mortem has been completed.

The Orillia OPP Crime Unit is continuing to investigate, states an OPP media release.

“The investigation is ongoing as police try to determine why the vehicle was on the tracks,” the release states.
