One injured in hockey fight at MASK 0

By Sara Carson, Orillia Packet & Times

An on-ice verbal altercation turned physical Thursday afternoon during the GMHL Showcase Classic tournament at the Rama MASK.

The fight broke out at 1 p.m. and left one hockey player with minor injuries, says Rama Police Service Staff Sgt. Tom Batisse.

“It was a verbal altercation that escalated from the ice into the dressing room hallway area,” he said. “One player did receive minor injuries.”

The fight broke out during a semi-final game between the South Muskoka Shield and Bradford Rattlers. Batisse did not know which team the injured player was on.

The teams were facing off to see who would compete against the Bracebridge Phantoms in the final match.

“There were two teams that were suspended from the tournament,” Batisse said.

Rama Police are currently investigating the fight and charges are pending, he said.

The Rama Aces were hosting the tournament. The local team was not involved in the fight.

The Packet & Times is waiting to hear from a GMHL representative.
