Charter Works trial date set

A trial date for a company owned by Mayor Angelo Orsi that pleaded not guilty to four charges under the Occupational Health and Safety Act has been set for the spring.

A Charter Works Limited employee was seriously injured while working on a solar panel project July 14, 2011, in the Township of Stone Mills near Napanee. Charter Works was working as a subcontractor for Gemco Solar of Mississauga.

Gemco Solar pleaded guilty to one count of failing to ensure measures and procedures prescribed by a regulation were followed and was fined $8,000.

Charter Works is charged with failing to provide information, instruction and supervision to a worker as an employer, failing to ensure a worker was adequately trained on working with a track loader, not following a regulation to adequately train two workers and committing the offence of providing false information on a project.

Charter Works faced the charges during a judicial pretrial in Napanee provincial court that wrapped up this week.

The trial begins March 19, 2013.
