Murder suspect set to appear in Barrie court

A Ramara Township woman charged with murder in the death of an elderly man will be in court Monday.

Margaret "Lee" Cole has been charged with first-degree murder, theft under $5,000 and fraud over $5,000. The charges stem from an investigation into a fire that killed Richard Humble, 82, of Washago, at his Riverdale Drive home April 9, 2011.

The U.S. Department of Justice and Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives assisted the OPP in its investigation.

OPP said the U.S. agencies were involved with the investigation to help determine the fire's cause.

That isn't standard procedure, said Orillia OPP Const. Shannon Petryshyn, but she would not speak further to the U.S. authorities' involvement, as it is evidence before the courts.

Cole, who was acquainted with Humble, was charged Monday.

"The fraud (charge) is in relation to the estate of Mr. Humble and that's about all I can say about that," Petryshyn said.

Cole is schedule to appear in Barrie Superior Court Monday at 9 a.m.
